I was born in Chula Vista and also worked there for 30 years as a high school English teacher (even though English is not my best subject, which as a student, was ditching class and poaching bass at Lake Otay). I've lived in La Mesa now for 25 years and it's only a ten minute drive to Lake Murray, which has become my default home water, that and kayak fishing Sweetwater Marsh in South Bay. I loved fishing as soon as I was old enough to tag along with my big brother, but didn't come around to fly fishing until 2008. Had I known it was so fun and relatively easy I would have been on board sooner. Speaking of boards, I joined the SDFF board as a member at large in 2017 and was assigned the position of secretary, a job I could never do half as well as our current secretary Mel, and finally transitioned to being the club newsletter guy.
