Moderated by Tim Huckaby, this should be another fantastic virtual club meeting hosted on Zoom. Al Q says, “Any Saltwater flyfishing question is fair game.” Inshore to offshore, local to remote, start thinking about those saltwater fly fishing questions you have always wanted answered, but never had the resource to ask.
SDFF members only! You are welcome to submit your questions in advance.
If you do, your questions will be discussed first. Submit in advance by email to Tim here, no later than Tuesday Feb 16.
As is the process in all SDFF virtual meetings:
Everyone will be placed on Mute when the meeting starts.
Questions will be asked / answered discussed in this order:
Pre-submitted (from members only) by email
Pasted in the zoom chat window to the moderator, Tim Huckaby, during the meeting in the order they are received. The moderator will read your question out loud to the entire group for Al to answer. Or the moderator will ask you to come off mute to ask your question directly.
By using the “raise your hand” functionality in zoom. The moderator will ask you to come off mute and ask your question.
About Al Quattrocchi
Al Quattrocchi (aka Al Q) has been a saltwater fly angler and fly tier for over thirty five years. He has been an advocate for education and the environment by creating fly fishing events to help introduce others to this great passion he has for flyfishing. His personal mentors include Neal Taylor, Lefty Kreh, Nick Curcione and Bob Popovics.
Al is a two-time, IGFA world record holder, breaking two records in the same day. He was recently awarded the Ross Allen Marigold Complete Angler Award by the historic Pasadena Fly Casting Club. His articles, photography and fly patterns have been published in many prominent fly fishing magazines across the country. Al is a licensed and bonded fly fishing guide that prefers teaching strategy over guiding. Al founded the popular One Surf Fly in So Cal which lasted nine seasons and raised thousands of dollars for non-profits and fly shops up and down the coast.. Al and fly celebrity friend, Conway Bowman teamed up to host the Carp Throw Down at Lake Henshaw, San Diego. This original, catch and release carp tournament founded in Southern CA that helps support veterans through their annual raffle. Al and master FFF MCI instructor, Jim Solomon, teach fly casting techniques to anglers around the world through a program they designed entitled The FlyZone. One of Al’s most famous fly fishing students is Jimmy Kimmel. This March you might see Al’s name in Tail Magazine as a regional editor for the West Coast. Tail is a bi-monthy publication and the premiere magazine for Saltwater fly angling in the country. Al is also a professional photograher and fly tier. He has had many fly patterns featured in the Umpqua Feather Merchants catalog and flyshops in California.
Although Al has fished in many places, his passion is still sight fishing the beaches of Southern California for corbina in the shallow summer surf. He has recently self-published his first book entitled, The Corbina Diaries, which is the first in-depth work on this popular surf species.
Would you like to be a 3rd Wednesday Speaker ???
Our programs chairperson Tim Huckaby says:
We have so much talent and expertise in the club that we have decided to augment our “normal” club meeting and presentation (every 1st Monday of the month) with a mostly club member presentation on the 3rd Wednesday of each month this year. Those of you that have joined the virtual club meetings you know we have had a lot of success. We sure have learned a lot and been entertained by some pillars of the fly fishing industry. Honestly, it has been easier for me to recruit speakers to do virtual presentations because I don’t take them out of their day jobs for stretches of travel to San Diego. We’ll continue our “normal” first Monday of the month meetings with “big name” speakers, virtually, until we can finally meet in person as a club again….which is not looking like any time soon. We have quite the lineup scheduled already for 2021. It’s not the same as meeting in person. I get that. I miss meeting in person too. But, the virtual thing is gonna’ have to do for while until the world gets ahead of the pandemic.
So…I’m on the hunt for you experts in the club that would be willing to do a virtual presentation and/or virtual Q&A for us on a 3rd Wednesday this year. Please contact me by email, email@example.com or my cell, 619-990-9200 to discuss. Don’t be surprised if I find you with a little help from other club members and proactively reach out to you for the ask.
